Explorer, entomologist and zoologist

George is the presenter of After Life - The Science of Decay for BBC4.  George is also the co-presenter of the phenomenally successful Expedition series for the BBC.  Last year marked his third expedition in the series with Lost Land of the Volcano and Georgewas recently seen in Lost Land of the Tiger in Bhutan.  George was a presenter on Lost Land of the Jaguar and on the series Expedition Borneo both for the BBC and Discovery Channel US. George is also a regular contributor to The One Show (BBC1) and is currently filming several new projects for the BBC.

Dr George C McGavin is an Honorary Research Associate at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, a Research Associate of The Department of Zoology of Oxford University and Visiting Professor of Entomology at the University of Derby. He is also a Fellow of the Linnaean Society and the Royal Geographical Society.  His research has taken him from the tropical forests of Papua New Guinea to the caves of Thailand and from the jungles of Belize to the savannas of Tanzania.  George has written numerous books on insects and other animals and is a regular contributor to radio and television programmes.  George studied Zoology at Edinburgh University before completing a doctorate at the British Museum of Natural History and Imperial College, London.

Acknowledged as an engaging and entertaining speaker George regularly speaks to audiences about insects, ecology, evolution, conservation and exploration.

George was the Series Consultant and a contributor on Infested (Granada/ITV, 2002) - a four part series on the creatures that share our homes and was the Chief Scientific Consultant for the BBC landmark series Life in the Undergrowth presented by David Attenborough (BBC, 2006).

George McGavin has several insect species named in his honour and hopes they survive him.
