Award winning edible garden designer
Jacqui Brocklehurst came to garden design as a continuation of a life-long passion for plants and art.
Academically trained as an artist she moved on and for over eight years worked as a plants person in commercial and retail nurseries.
During this time she studied for her R.H.S General and Advanced certificates in horticulture.
In 2000 she was asked to develop the grounds of a historic building into a green area for wildlife and a quiet garden for contemplation.
This inspired her to study for a Diploma in Garden design.
From there she progressed as a garden consultant and designer and now enjoys her own successful garden design business.
Her first back to back garden at R.H.S Tatton, ‘Eat my Garden’ was awarded a silver-gilt medal in 2006.
Jacqui’s passion for edible plants began four years ago. As the mother of three young children Daisy, Poppy and Tully she was concerned about the quality of the food they were consuming.
Fresh, organic produce was not readily available so she decided to grow her own.
The allotment she took over was covered in debris and took a year to clear, but it was worth it.
Now her fruit, vegetables, herbs and salad crops thrive and the kids love eating healthy, organic produce.
It was time spent at the allotment that inspired Jacqui to create a back to back garden at R.H.S Tatton in 2006. Eat my Garden demonstrated that a productive garden can also be a beautiful one. The concept received much public and media acclaim with the BBC featuring the making of the garden and its resulting success.
