GP and expert in sexual health and women’s health
Dr
Radha Modgil is the dynamic, yet approachable, medical presenter of the
television series ‘The Sex Education Show’ and ‘Make My Body Younger’.
Her
media career is continuing to blossom.
She
graduated with honours from Cambridge University and Imperial College in 2003 and embarked on her general medical rotation. Over the next 4 years, she
worked in over 12 medical specialties including A&E, Cardiology, Chest and
Allergy Medicine, Cancer Medicine and Palliative Care, as well as Sexual Health
and HIV. She gained a wealth of experience in hospital medicine before she
decided general practice was for her.
Radha
first appeared by chance on BBC 1 at the tender age of 24 in ‘City Hospital’ whilst working her usual shift in St Thomas’ trauma unit. She soon realised she
loved educating the public about their health and had a dynamic flair for
presenting.
She
went on to become a member of the Association of Broadcasting Doctors in 2006
and dabbled in Event Medicine as the doctor for Earls Court Exhibitions.
Her
sister found an advert for a doctor to appear in ‘Make my Body Younger’ (BBC3) and
it was in this series she first captured the public’s attention with her
jargon-fee explanations and her common-sense yet empathetic approach. She
lived with 20-somethings who were coping with addiction and obesity, trying to
tackle their habits. The series worked in conjunction with the National
Obesity Forum.
Owing
to the success of this series, Radha was asked to be the medical presenter of ‘The
Sex Education Show’ (Channel 4). This hard-hitting, no-nonsense series tackled
sensitive and taboo issues surrounding teenage sex and suited Radha’s style
down to the ground. She managed to present the hard facts to teens and adults
in a frank yet empathetic manner.
The
second series was a huge hit, tackling issues of pornography and teenagers and Radha
filmed several interactive factual videos for the very popular ‘Sexperience’
website, as well as travelling around the UK with the ‘Sex Education Roadshow’.
She
has also been working promoting ‘Learning at Work Day’ with advice about general
health, mental well-being and stress management at work. She has contributed
to the Mouth Cancer Foundation website and BBC Headroom’s Wellbeing Guide to
Addictions regarding smoking cessation.
She
writes regularly as the ‘Body Expert’ for Bliss Magazine Online, answering
teenagers’ worries and problems.
She
has expertise in Sexual Health, Addiction and Women’s health to name a few, but
her day to day work as a GP partner in Berkshire allows her expertise in a
wealth of specialties.
